롤스로이스모터카가 현지 시각으로 5월 12일 팬텀 시리즈 II(Phantom Series II)를 전세계 최초 공개했다.

롤스로이스 팬텀은 1925년 처음 등장한 이래 탁월한 기술력과 시간을 초월하는 디자인, 최고급 럭셔리에 대한 깊은 이해를 바탕으로 ‘세계 최고의 차(The Best Car in the World)’라는 명성을 누려왔다. 이번에 선보이는 팬텀 시리즈 II는 지난 2017년 첫 선을 보인 이후 출시되는 부분변경 모델로, 최소한의 변화를 요구한 고객들의 의견을 반영한 ‘라이트 터치’ 디자인과 최첨단 편의 기능이 탑재된 것이 특징이다.

8세대 팬텀 시리즈 II는 최소한의 변화로 미적 요소를 향상시켰다. 먼저 전면부 판테온 그릴 상단과 주간 주행등 사이에 세련된 수평선을 추가해 신선하면서 모던한 분위기를 연출했으며, 그릴에 섬세하고 기하학적인 변형을 줌으로써 롤스로이스의 상징인 ‘RR’ 배지와 환희의 여신상을 더욱 돋보이게 했다. 여기에 마치 별빛처럼 복잡한 레이저 컷 베젤이 적용된 헤드라이트를 탑재해 어두운 밤에도 압도적인 존재감을 뿜어낸다.

새로운 팬텀은 롤스로이스 특유의 짧은 오버행, 긴 휠베이스, 굵은 C필러는 물론 환희의 여신상에서부터 후면부까지 이어지는 우아한 라인을 그대로 유지했다. 이와 더불어, 전면부 휀더부터 리어 램프까지 이어지는 ‘스플릿-벨트(Split-belt)’ 라인으로 차량의 비율을 강조하고 과감하게 깎아낸 ‘와프트 라인(Waft line)’은 드라마틱한 음영을 만들어 롤스로이스 고유의 ‘매직 카펫 라이드’ 승차감을 시각적으로 표현했다.

차량의 측면을 완성하는 휠 세트는 두 가지 형태로 제공된다. 3D 밀링 기법으로 제작된 스테인리스 스틸 휠을 전체 또는 부분 광택으로 주문하거나 1920년대 롤스로이스의 낭만을 떠올리게 하는 디스크 휠을 선택할 수 있다. 광택 스테인리스 스틸로 제작된 디스크 휠은 블랙 래커로 마감해 마치 지상 위를 비행을 하고 있는 듯한 느낌을 선사한다.

팬텀의 호화로운 실내는 그대로 유지하되, 직접 운전을 선호하는 고객층이 나날이 증가함에 따라 미세하게 두꺼워진 스티어링 휠이 장착됐다. 새로운 스티어링 휠은 차량과 운전자가 연결된 느낌을 강화하면서 더욱 즉각적인 반응을 전달한다.

팬텀 시리즈 II에는 ‘롤스로이스 커넥티드(Rolls-Royce Connected)’ 기능이 탑재된다. 롤스로이스 전용 멤버십 애플리케이션 ‘위스퍼스’와 호환 가능한 롤스로이스 커넥티드는 위스퍼스 내 주소와 정보 등을 차량으로 바로 전송할 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라, 해당 애플리케이션에서 차량 상태, 위치 및 보안 등 각종 정보를 실시간으로 확인할 수 있으며, 버튼 하나만 누르면 원하는 전시장으로 연결되어 차량 관련 서비스나 차량에 대해 쉽고 빠르게 문의할 수 있다.

한편, 롤스로이스는 팬텀 시리즈 II의 출시를 기념하기 위해 비스포크 모델 팬텀 플래티노(Phantom Platino)를 제작했다. 새로운 비스포크 걸작인 팬텀 플래티노는 백금(Platinum)의 은백색 마감에서 이름을 따왔다.

팬텀 플래티노는 소재에 대한 롤스로이스의 탐구 정신이 여실히 드러나는 모델이다. 차량의 뒷좌석과 실내 곳곳은 최고급 가죽이 아닌 두 가지 다른 직물로 마감됐다. 이탈리아 모직 공장에서 생산된 직물은 내구성이 높으면서도 고급스러움을 자랑한다.

비단처럼 부드러운 직물은 팬텀 갤러리와 암레스트, 센터 콘솔 등 승객의 시선이 머무는 곳을 장식한다. 촘촘하고 탄력 있는 대나무 섬유는 압력을 견뎌야 하는 실내 하부 공간에 적용됐다. 환희의 여신상을 추상적으로 재해석한 패턴이 들어간 두 직물은 동일한 색상의 다른 색조를 매치하는 톤온톤(tone on tone) 배색으로 편안하고 아름다운 실내 분위기를 연출한다.

뿐만 아니라, 대시보드에 위치한 시계의 주변부는 3D 프린팅으로 제작된 세라믹으로 장식됐으며, 무광으로 마감된 우드 비니어와 대조를 이뤄 아름다운 색의 조화를 만들어낸다. 또한, 스타라이트 헤드라이너의 별들은 시선을 뒤쪽으로 향하게끔 배치하고 슈팅스타는 아치 모양으로 떨어지도록 특별 제작됐다.

랜드로버가 영국에 위치한 재규어 랜드로버의 ‘게이든 첨단 제품 개발 센터(Gaydon Product Creation Centre)’에서 한층 더 모던한 디자인과 파워풀한 주행 성능으로 스포츠 럭셔리를 재정의하는 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠를 세계 최초로 공개했다.  

이번 세계 최초 공개 행사에서 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠는 물에 잠긴 댐 방수로를 타고 오르는 극적인 장면을 연출하며 글로벌 무대에 등장했다. 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠는 아이슬란드에 있는 세계 최대 길이의 방수로를 갖춘 댐인 카우라흐뉴카르 댐(Karahnjukar Dam)에서 분당 750톤의 물이 쏟아지는 가운데 294m 길이의 방수로를 따라 흐르는 급류에 저항하며 40도의 가파른 경사를 거슬러 오르는 데 성공했다. 구동력을 잃는 순간 90m 아래로 추락할 수 있는 위험천만한 도전이었다.

제임스 본드 영화의 공식 스턴트 드라이버인 제시카 호킨스(Jessica Hawkins)는 이번 도전을 통해 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠의 접지력, 구동력, 성능, 안정성을 성공적으로 시연해 럭셔리 스포츠 SUV로서의 놀라운 성능을 증명했다. 레인지로버 스포츠는 기록적인 높이의 파이크스 피크(Pikes Peak) 신기록 등반, 아라비아 반도의 엠티 쿼터(Empty Quarter) 사막 최초 횡단, 중국 천문산의 999 계단 최초 등정에 도전해 성공한 바 있다. 

2005년 출시 이후 3세대로 새롭게 선보이는 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠는 랜드로버 역사상 가장 다이내믹한 모델로, 한계를 넘어선 강력한 퍼포먼스와 레인지로버 패밀리만의 고급스러운 디자인이 결합된 럭셔리 스포츠 SUV다. 이번 완전 변경을 통해 한 차례 더 진보한 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠는 모던 럭셔리 철학이 반영된 디자인과 더불어 새롭게 적용된 MLA-Flex(Modular Longitudinal Architecture-Flex) 플랫폼을 기반으로 온ž오프로드를 아우르는 본능적인 주행 반응성과 완벽한 연결성이 조화를 이뤄 가장 매력적인 레인지로버 스포츠로 거듭났다.  

올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠는 주행거리가 연장된 플러그인 하이브리드(PHEV), 마일드 하이브리드(MHEV) 시스템이 적용된 I6 인제니움 가솔린 및 디젤 엔진, 최신 V8 트윈 터보 엔진 등 다양한 파워트레인 라인업으로 역대 모델 중 가장 역동적인 성능을 제공한다. 이와 더불어 2024년 순수전기(BEV) 모델을 출시해 극적인 현대성과 고유의 개성을 전동화 성능과 결합해 선보일 예정이다.

모던 럭셔리 디자인  

올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠의 매끈한 표면, 역동적인 스탠스, 한눈에 알아볼 수 있는 프로파일로 완성된 육감적인 비율은 금방이라도 폭발적인 성능을 선보일 것 같은 준비된 인상을 준다. 이러한 드라마틱한 비율은 레인지로버 스포츠만의 독특한 캐릭터를 더욱 돋보이게 한다. 이와 더불어 짧은 오버행, 날렵한 그릴과 헤드라이트에서 표현되는 당당한 프론트 엔드, 전면과 후면의 가파르게 경사진 윈드스크린 등 레인지로버 스포츠의 트레이드 마크 디자인 요소들은 도로 위에서 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠의 압도적인 존재감을 과시한다.  

조각한 듯한 외관은 스탤스 디자인의 프론트 그릴, 크리스털처럼 빛나는 시그니처 주간 주행등(DRL)을 구성하는 디지털 LED 헤드라이트 등 정교한 마감으로 더욱 특별하게 완성됐다. 블랙 디테일이 강조된 하부 범퍼 위에 위치한 랜드로버 역사상 가장 슬림한 헤드라이트는 차체 전면부를 수평으로 이등분하며 차량을 시각적으로 더 넓어 보이게 하는 효과를 준다.  

완벽하게 다듬어진 디자인 요소들은 리어에서 레인지로버 로고와 함께 차체 너비에 맞춰 조각한 듯한 모습의 테일게이트와 어우러져 다시 한번 강조된다. 끊임없이 이어지는 LED 리어라이트 그래픽은 양산차 최초로 표면 LED(Surface LED) 기술이 적용돼 한밤중 어느 각도에서도 선명하고 일관성 있는 현대적인 모습을 선사한다. 숄더 라인은 차체 전체에 걸쳐 길게 이어지며, 새로워진 하부 펜더 디테일과 레인지로버 라인업 중 가장 긴 스포일러로 인해 더욱 돋보인다.

이음새 없이 간결하고 아름답게 마감된 플러시 글레이징과 플러시 도어 핸들, 히든 웨이스트 레일 피니셔, 레이저로 용접된 루프 등 미니멀리즘 디자인 철학이 반영된 마감 기술은 정밀하고 세련된 익스테리어를 완성한다. 이러한 공기역학적인 디자인을 바탕으로 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠의 항력 계수는 0.29Cd에 불과하다
 
새로 출시되는 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠 다이내믹(Dynamic) 모델은 더욱 날렵한 인상을 자아내는 실외 디자인 요소를 통해 고성능 SUV의 목적에 걸맞은 특성을 강조한다. 새틴 그레이(Satin Grey) 알로이 휠은 보닛의 루브르와 측면 잉곳에 적용한 새틴 버니시드 코퍼(Satin Burnished Copper) 피니시와 조화를 이룬다. 또한, 독특한 프론트 및 리어 범퍼와 비스포크 하부 클래딩(Cladding)을 차체와 같은 색상으로, 레인지로버 로고를 매트 그래파이트 아틀라스(Matte Graphite Atlas) 색상으로 마감하며 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠의 역동성을 가장 극적으로 표현해냈다.

재규어 랜드로버의 최고 크리에이티브 책임자(Chief Creative Officer) 제리 맥거번(Gerry McGovern)은 “올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠는 의심할 여지없이 스포티하고 자신감 넘치는 특성을 극대화하는 동시에 랜드로버만의 궁극적인 모던 럭셔리 디자인을 완벽하게 구현한 모델”이라고 말했다. 

올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠의 정교하고 럭셔리한 디자인은 완전히 새로운 인테리어 디자인과 연결된다. 랜드로버의 트레이드 마크인 커맨드 드라이빙 포지션(Command Driving Position)은 조종석과 유사한 콕핏 구조로 새롭게 해석됐으며, 운전자에게 몰입감 넘치는 주행 환경을 제공해 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠만의 스포티함을 더욱 강조한다. 더불어 역대 최대 사이즈의 13.1인치 커브드 플로팅 모니터가 장착됐으며, 최고급 윈저(Windsor) 및 부드러운 세미 아닐린(Semi Aniline) 가죽 옵션을 제공한다. 여기에 적용된 문라이트 크롬(Moonlight Chrome) 피니시는 현대적이며 퍼포먼스에 특화된 실내 분위기에 완성도를 더한다.

올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠는 랜드로버의 차세대 MLA-Flex 플랫폼을 기반으로 제작됐으며, 이 차체 구조는 탁월한 역동성과 더할 나위 없는 정교함을 위한 완벽한 기반을 제공한다. MLA-Flex 플랫폼은 이전 모델보다 최대 35% 더 향상된 33,000Nm/deg의 비틀림 강성을 제공하며, 통합 섀시 컨트롤 시스템(Integrated Chassis Control System)을 통해 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠만을 위해 특별 조정된 일련의 시스템과 조화를 이루도록 통합 제어가 가능하다. 이를 통해 본능에 가까울 정도로 뛰어난 반응성과 민첩성을 제공한다.  

올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠 모든 모델에는 전환 가능한 볼륨 에어 스프링(Switchable Volume Air Springs)이 최초로 도입된 다이내믹 에어 서스펜션(Dynamic Air Suspension)이 장착됐다. 이 지능형 시스템은 서스펜션 챔버 내의 압력을 변화시켜 서스펜션 강도의 변화폭을 높임으로써 레인지로버 특유의 고품격 승차감과 레인지로버 스포츠 고유의 다이내믹한 핸들링을 동시에 제공한다. 또한 응답성을 최적화하기 위해 e호라이즌(eHorizon) 내비게이션 데이터를 사용하여 전방 도로를 모니터링하고, 차량이 전방의 커브에 선제적으로 대비할 수 있도록 한다.  

새로운 다이내믹 리스폰스 프로(Dynamic Response Pro)는 최신 다이내믹 에어 서스펜션과 함께 작동한다. 최신 전자식 롤 컨트롤 시스템(eARC)을 기반으로 최대 1,400Nm의 토크를 각 액슬에 가하여 자신감 있는 주행과 수준 높은 차체 제어 및 코너링 안정성을 제공한다. 이와 함께 적용되는 어댑티브 다이내믹스 2(Adaptive Dynamics 2) 기술은 노면의 상태를 초당 500회 모니터링하며 댐퍼 설정을 지속적으로 최적화해 불필요한 차체 움직임을 줄이고 날카로운 핸들링과 다이내믹한 드라이빙을 가능하게 한다.

올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠는 올 휠 스티어링(All Wheel Steering)과 제동 기반의 토크 벡터링 시스템을 포함한 전자식 액티브 디퍼런셜(Electronic Active Differential with Torque Vectoring by Braking)을 통해 새로운 차원의 코너링 성능을 보장한다. 올 휠 스티어링 기능으로 후방 차축을 최대 7.3도로 조향할 수 있으며, 저속 및 고속 주행에 따라 전후방 차축의 회전 방향을 다르게 조정함으로써 민첩성과 기동성, 탁월한 안정성을 모두 발휘한다. 이를 통해 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠는 소형 해치백 수준의 회전 직경과 민첩한 온로드 주행 성능을 제공한다.  

새롭게 적용된 스토머 핸들링 팩(Stormer Handling Pack)은 섀시 기술을 궁극적으로 조합해 가장 역동적이고 민첩한 핸들링을 선사하며, 다이내믹 리스폰스 프로, 올 휠 스티어링, 토크 벡터링 시스템을 포함한 전자식 액티브 디퍼런셜, 설정 가능한 프로그램(Configurable Programme) 등으로 구성된다. 스토머 핸들링 팩은 P530 및 P510e 모델에 기본으로 탑재된다.  

올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠는 8단 ZF 자동변속기와 최신 인텔리전트 사륜구동(iAWD) 시스템을 통해 차량의 주행 상황과 접지력을 초당 100회 모니터링함으로써 각 액슬에 최적의 토크를 예측하고 분배한다. 이를 통해 어떤 조건에서도 가장 효율적인 주행이 가능하도록 돕고 연비를 최적화한다.  

올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠는 오프로드 환경에서도 완벽한 퍼포먼스를 발휘한다. 랜드로버 최초로 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠에 도입된 어댑티브 오프로드 크루즈 컨트롤(Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control)은 4가지 컴포트 주행 모드를 설정할 수 있으며, 다양한 알고리즘에 따라 차체의 틸팅, 롤링, 피칭, 그리고 요잉을 자동으로 분석해 차량의 최적 주행 속도를 측정하고 이를 유지하도록 돕는다. 이를 통해 운전자는 어떠한 오프로드 환경에서도 차량의 안정성, 제어력, 그리고 승차감을 보장받으며 스티어링 휠 조작에만 집중할 수 있다.  

랜드로버의 특허 기술인 최신 전자동 지형 반응 시스템®2 (Terrain Response® 2)는 노면 상태와 지형을 파악해 주행 상황에 맞는 최적의 차체 세팅을 제공하며 이를 피비 프로(PIVI Pro) 인포테인먼트 시스템을 통해 운전자에게 안내한다. 더불어 다이내믹 에어 서스펜션을 통해 도전적인 오프로드 상황에서도 135mm까지 지상고를 높일 수 있으며, 900mm의 깊이까지 도강이 가능하다.  

성능과 효율 겸비한 파워트레인 라인업

재규어 랜드로버 전동화 ‘리이매진’ 전략의 핵심인 MLA-Flex 플랫폼은 특유의 유연함을 기반으로 다양한 파워트레인을 장착할 수 있도록 설계됐다. 이를 바탕으로 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠 라인업에는 주행거리를 연장한 플러그인 하이브리드(PHEV) 모델과 마일드 하이브리드 시스템(MHEV)이 적용된 I6 인제니움 가솔린 및 디젤 엔진 모델, 완전히 새로워진 V8 트윈 터보 모델이 포함된다. 2024년에는 순수 전기차(BEV) 모델을 추가함으로써 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠 라인업을 확장한다.  

올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠 P510e PHEV 모델은 WLTP 기준 100km 이상을 탄소 배출 없이 주행할 수 있으며 랜드로버의 3.0L I6 인제니움 가솔린 엔진과 강력한 105kW 전기 모터, 38.2kWh 배터리가 결합해 510PS의 최고 출력과 700Nm의 최대 토크를 자랑하고 0-100km/h 가속 시간은 5.4초에 불과하다. WLTP 기준 최대 전기 주행거리는 113km, 실제 예상 주행거리는 88km, CO2 배출량은 18g/km이다. 이를 통해 모든 여정의 약 75%는 전기로만 주행이 가능하다. PHEV 파워트레인은 장거리 주행 시 가솔린 엔진과 결합해 총 740km 주행이 가능하다.  

올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠 가솔린 라인업의 정점이라 할 수 있는 P530 모델에는 새로운 V8 트윈 터보 엔진이 탑재돼 첨단 섀시 기술의 활용을 극대화한 감각적인 드라이빙 경험을 제공한다. 4.4리터 트윈 터보 V8 엔진은 530PS의 최고 출력을 자랑하며, 다이내믹 런치를 활성화한 상태에서의 0-100km/h 가속 시간은 4.5초에 불과하다. 매력적인 엔진 사운드와 함께 고성능 SUV 진가를 느낄 수 있는 V8 엔진은 기존 모델 대비 17% 향상된 연비와 함께 더욱 강렬한 드라이빙 경험을 위해 20% 높아진 토크를 제공한다.  

이 외에도 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠는 강력한 성능의 MHEV I6 인제니움 가솔린 엔진을 탑재한 P360, P400 모델과 D250, D300 및 D350 MHEV I6 인제니움 디젤 엔진 모델 등 다양한 선택지를 제공한다. 최신 MHEV 시스템은 엔진 보조용 교류 발전기를 대신하는 BiSG(Belt-integrated Starter Generator)와 차량 감속 시 에너지를 회수해 저장하기 위한 48V 리튬 이온 배터리로 구성된다. BiSG는 스톱-스타트 시스템의 빠른 응답성과 정교한 작동을 보장해주며, 가속 시 엔진에 추가적인 지원을 제공해 효율성을 향상시킨다.

스포츠 럭셔리의 대명사  

올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠에 탑재된 차세대 실내 공기 정화 프로(Cabin Air Purification Pro) 시스템은 PM2.5 필터 및 nanoeTM X 기술을 통해 코로나19 바이러스를 비롯해 각종 냄새, 박테리아, 알레르기 유발 물질을 현저히 감소시킨다. 특히 nanoeTM X 시스템은 2열에도 탑재돼 차량 전체에 쾌적한 공기 상태를 유지하며, 최신 CO2 관리 기능까지 갖춰 탑승객 모두에게 최상의 웰빙을 제공한다.  

옵션으로 선택 가능한 메리디안 시그니처 사운드 시스템(Meridian Signature Sound System)은 역대 레인지로버 스포츠 모델에 탑재된 오디오 시스템 중 가장 진보된 기술과 풍요로운 사운드를 자랑한다. MLA-Flex 플랫폼 특유의 정숙성을 바탕으로 29개의 스피커와 새로운 서브우퍼 그리고 최대 1,430W의 앰프가 더해져 온 몸을 감싸는 듯한 사운드를 느낄 수 있다. 또한, 4개의 메인 시트 헤드레스트에 각각 스피커가 장착되어 있어 탑승객은 자신만의 독립적인 사운드 영역을 경험할 수 있다.  

이와 함께 제공되는 차세대 액티브 노이즈 캔슬링 시스템(Active Noise Cancellation)는 각 휠 아치 내부에 위치한 마이크와 가속도계를 통해 외부에서 유입되는 노면과 타이어 소음을 지속적으로 모니터링하고 하이엔드 헤드폰과 같은 방식으로 소음 제거 신호를 생성해 고요한 실내 분위기를 조성한다. 탑승객은 다이내믹 주행 시에는 외부 소음에 희석되지 않은 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠만의 엔진 사운드를 즐길 수 있으며, 일상 주행 시에는 평온한 실내 환경을 만끽할 수 있다.

운전석과 조수석에 배치된 마사지 기능과 열선 및 통풍 기능이 추가된 22방향 조절식 전동 메모리 시트는 장거리 주행 시 피로감을 줄여주며, 머리를 편안하게 감싸주는 헤드레스트는 모든 탑승자에게 퍼스트 클래스 급의 편안함과 럭셔리한 경험을 제공한다. 인체공학적으로 최적화된 2열은 31mm 넓어진 레그룸과 20mm 여유로워진 무릎 공간으로 최상의 안락함을 선사한다.

랜드로버의 강력한 전기차 아키텍처인 EVA 2.0(Electrical Vehicle Architecture)은 SOTA(Software-Over-The-Air) 기능을 비롯한 매끄러운 커넥티드 기술 생태계를 구축한다. 이 스마트 기술을 통해 63개의 전자 모듈에 대한 원격 업데이트가 가능하며, 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠를 사용하는 동안 최첨단 기술과 서비스, 그리고 혁신을 누릴 수 있도록 보장한다.

올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠 모델 최초로 수상 경력에 빛나는 피비 프로(PIVI Pro) 인포테인먼트 시스템이 탑재됐다. 직관적인 인터페이스가 특징인 피비 프로 시스템은 단 두 번의 터치만으로 90%의 기능을 사용할 수 있으며, 햅틱 피드백을 새롭게 적용해 운전자가 주행에 더욱 집중할 수 있도록 해 편의성을 높였다. 피비 프로 시스템은 모던함이 돋보이는 대시보드 중앙에 위치한 고해상도 플로팅 13.1인치 햅틱 터치스크린을 통해 사용 가능하며, 고화질 그래픽의 13.7인치 세미 플로팅 대화형 운전자 디스플레이(Interactive Driver Display)과 함께 연동된다.

올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠에는 빔 범위가 최대 500m에 달하는 새로운 고화질의 디지털 LED 헤드라이트를 장착했다. 각 헤드라이트 내부에 장착된 130만 개의 개별 제어가 가능한 디지털 마이크로 미러 장치(DMDs)가 차량 경로 내에서 최대 16개의 물체를 식별하고 지능적으로 빛을 차단해 다른 도로 사용자의 눈부심을 방지한다. 더불어 새로운 메누버링 라이트(Manoeuvring Lights)는 3D 서라운드 카메라 시스템과 함께 작동하며 차량 주변에 빛을 밝혀 어두운 곳에서도 안전하게 저속 주행을 할 수 있도록 돕는다.

올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠는 올 뉴 레인지로버와 마찬가지로 랜드로버의 정신적 고향이기도 한 영국 솔리헐(Solihull) 공장에서 독점 생산된다. 초기 랜드로버 시리즈가 생산됐던 역사적인 이 생산 기지는 올 뉴 레인지로버 스포츠와 올 뉴 레인지로버 생산을 위한 현대적인 센터로 변모되어 고유한 헤리티지를 이어간다.

로터스는 3월 29일 자사의 최초 전동 SUV, '엘레트라(Lotus Eletre)'를 유럽에서 발표했다. 세계 최초의 전동 하이퍼 SUV를 표방하고 있다.

London, UK – 29 March 2022  The ongoing transformation of Lotus to a truly global performance car brand has reached its most significant milestone yet.

The all-new and all-electric Lotus Eletre is a striking and progressive Hyper-SUV – the first of a new breed of pure electric SUVs. It takes the core principles and Lotus DNA from more than 70 years of sports car design and engineering, evolving them into a desirable all-new lifestyle car for the next generation of Lotus customers.

The company’s famed expertise in the fields of ride and handling, steering and optimised aerodynamics have been carefully and respectfully evolved. The Eletre takes the heart and soul of the latest Lotus sports car – the Emira – and the revolutionary aero performance of the all-electric Evija hypercar, and reinterprets them as a Hyper-SUV.

Known until two days ago only by its Lotus codename, Type 132, the Eletre is a globally relevant product, a shining halo of sustainable mobility for a worldwide audience. The Eletre is 4WD, has a battery capacity that’s over 100kWh and with power from 600hp. A 350kW charger will deliver a 400km (248 miles) range in just 20 minutes. The car’s target maximum WLTP driving range is c.600km (c.373 miles). It also comes with the ability as standard to accept 22kW AC charging which, where available, reduces the time plugged in.

Technology includes the most advanced active aerodynamics package on any production SUV, and intelligent driving technologies such as the world’s first deployable Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) system in a production car. The Eletre is the first in a new range of premium lifestyle performance electric vehicles to be built at an all-new state-of-the-art production facility in Wuhan, China. The car has been ‘Born British, Raised Globally’, with design led by the UK, supported by collaborative work with teams in China, Sweden and Germany. The overall exterior and interior design has been led by an international team based at the Lotus Tech Creative Centre (LTCC) in Warwickshire, UK.

The Lotus Eletre in detail

The Eletre is a new icon from Lotus. It is the latest in a long line of Lotus road cars whose name begins with the letter E, and means ‘Coming to Life’ in some Eastern European languages. It’s an appropriate link as the Eletre marks the start of a new chapter in the history of Lotus – the first accessible EV and the first SUV.

The immersive experience with the Lotus Eletre begins before the driver has reached the car. Pressing the button on the key or smartphone app activates a moment of theatre that’s unique in the automotive world. The car’s exterior lights run through a short sequence, the active front grille ‘breathes’ and the illuminated flush door handles deploy. The experience is repeated inside the car as the door closes behind the occupant.

Ben Payne, Head of Studio at LTCC, said: “This walk-up sequence is a ‘peacock moment’ – a little ‘showing-off’ that highlights the Eletre’s engaging personality. It’s a visual expression of a car coming to life, and a metaphor for the reinvention of the Lotus business and brand which begins with the Eletre.”

From the very earliest discussions about the car and its position at the heart of the Vision80-led transformation of Lotus, the Eletre was to be a showcase for how a Lotus can deliver performance-oriented driving thrills and refinement outside of the traditional sports car segments.

It is ‘Born British Raised Globally’ and that is more than a slogan. It has defined a rewarding collaborative process which has set the standard for the development and quality of the next generation of Lotus performance cars.

The fundamentals of what makes the Eletre a Lotus were established in Hethel, UK – the iconic home of Lotus since 1966. The global Lotus team worked together to deliver the strategic direction for the forthcoming range of Lotus lifestyle vehicles, plus the dynamic development, systems integration, aerodynamic optimisation and overall driver satisfaction of the Eletre.

A new Lotus research and development facility, established in China in 2020, utilises the market’s leading intelligent technologies and digital competencies to build the Eletre – and a new generation of electric high performance vehicles – at an all-new state-of-the-art manufacturing centre. Teams at Lotus Tech Innovation Centre (LTIC) in Raunheim, Germany, have assisted with component integration, durability testing, certification and homologation, with experts from the engineering team in Gothenburg, Sweden, working on the car’s EV management systems.

 

Exterior design: daring and dramatic

Design of the Lotus Eletre has been led by Ben Payne. His team has created a daring and dramatic new model with a cab-forward stance, long wheelbase and very short overhangs front and rear. Creative freedom comes from the absence of a petrol engine under the bonnet, while the short bonnet echoes the styling cues of Lotus’ iconic mid-engined layout. Overall, there’s a visual lightness to the car, creating the impression of a high-riding sports car rather than an SUV. The ‘carved by air’ design ethos which inspired the Evija and Emira is immediately obvious.

Ben commented: “The Eletre is a progressive all-electric performance vehicle embodying emotion, intelligence and prestige and, as the first of the brand’s lifestyle cars, it sets the standard for what will follow. We have taken the iconic design language of the Lotus sports car and successfully evolved it into an elegant and exotic Hyper-SUV.”

A signature element of the design is its ‘porosity’ – the aerodynamic principle of air flowing through the car as well as under, over and around it. Porosity was at the heart of the Evija’s design, is integral to the Emira, and has provided clear inspiration for the Eletre. It is most obvious where air is channelled under the leading edge of the car, emerging through two exit vents in the bonnet above. There are other examples of porosity ahead of and behind the front wheel arches, behind the rear wheels, and even at the top of the D-pillar. For the driver there are clear benefits to porosity – less resistance in cutting through the air, delivering a more efficient journey in terms of improved vehicle range, speed and performance.

At the front of the Eletre, the very sharp and crisp leading edge reveals a clear lineage with the Emira and Evija. It draws a distinct line across the very striking and contemporary design treatment below. There are further echoes of Evija in the layering of the surfaces, the creation of space and the optimised aerodynamic performance.

Just above the leading edge are the very slim and technical light clusters which house the Daytime Running Lights and scrolling directional indicators. The main lamps, which are available with matrix technology to permit constant high beam use without affecting oncoming traffic, are housed below, recessed and partially hidden.

Lower down is the Eletre’s active front grille, a network of interconnecting triangular petals that dominate the central section. Intricately designed, they remain closed when the car is at rest or when there’s a need to reduce drag during driving. They open in a distinctive pattern to feed air into the radiator, allowing the Eletre to ‘breathe’ when cooling of the electric motors, battery pack and front brakes is required. It’s a further example of the car’s porosity and also offers aerodynamic benefits.

Overall there is a unique sense of flow and a kinetic quality to the Eletre’s front end, which also includes a deployable LIDAR sensor mounted at the top of the windscreen. All the black components are finished in carbon fibre while the body panels are aluminium. It is the bold leading edge of the Eletre’s bonnet which continues round into the front wing, wheel arch and ultimately the length of the vehicle as a feature line. The car’s taut and muscular lines are dominant above it, while the aerodynamic elements are below.

Moving round the car, its muscular haunches dominate the profile view. The air outlet immediately behind the front wheels defines the sculpted shape of the doors, each of which has a flush handle. The electrically opening cover for the charging port is fitted in the front wing, as are the deployable LIDAR sensors, one on each side and a world-first technology for the Eletre.

The aggressive rake of the windscreen is clearly visible in profile, with a relatively narrow, glass area – and black cantrail above – which tapers away dramatically at the rear. That leads into a unique floating D-pillar, engraved with the Eletre wordmark and featuring an innovative ‘air blade’ which aids drag reduction. Another example of porosity, it’s an aerodynamic performance enhancement taken directly from the front bumper of the Emira.

Each door mirror is replaced by an Electric Reverse Mirror Display (ERMD), which houses three different cameras1 – one for the rear-view mirror, a second to help create a 360-degree view of the car from above to aid parking, and a third that’s part of the intelligent driving technologies. It works in tandem with the Eletre’s LIDAR system to deliver autonomous driving capability. The car rides on 23-inch machine-cut split-finish five-spoke alloys with carbon fibre inserts to aid air flow and ceramic composite 10-piston caliper brakes2.

Moving to the rear, the full-width ribbon light strip picks up the feature line from the profile. Situated just above the Lotus wordmark, it is red when the car is moving and includes a scrolling directional indicator at each end, where it curves gently into the air outlets from the wheel arches – another design cue which echoes both the Emira and Evija. The light can appear in four colours, playing a role in the car’s theatrical unlocking sequence and indicating battery charge status.

The rear is dominated by the unique cantilevered carbon fibre ‘floating’ split roof spoiler, a motorsport-inspired design feature that evokes race car winglets. With the central section removed weight is saved – a very Lotus concept – and allows the LIDAR sensor to be integrated at the top of the glass. Optimised for exceptional aerodynamics, the roof spoiler channels airflow down the glass and into the active tailgate spoiler which is deployed automatically at speed. It has three distinct deployment angles, depending on the drive mode selected.

 

Interior design: a new level of premium for Lotus

The Eletre takes Lotus interiors to an unprecedented new level. The performance-oriented and technical design is visually lightweight, using ultra-premium materials to deliver an exceptional customer experience. Shown with four individual seats, this is available to customers alongside the more traditional five-seat layout. Above, a fixed panoramic glass sunroof3 adds to the bright and spacious feeling inside.

Sustainability has been a core focus of the design team, which has worked with leading supplier Kvadrat on material choices. The interior uses premium feel and highly durable man-made microfibres on the primary touchpoints, and an advanced wool-blend fabric on the seats. It is 50% lighter than traditional leather, allowing for further weight savings. The hard materials are carbon fibre, though rather than use the traditional ‘weave’ most often associated with automotive design, Lotus has recycled the fibres trimmed from the edge of the weave. These have been reconstructed into a new matting, then compressed in a resin to create the car’s premium marble-like finish.

The driver-focused cockpit and high centre console are inspired by the Lotus Emira and Evija, creating a cossetted feeling. The layering of materials and textures creates a truly premium feel, augmented by a triangular theme – seen externally on the car’s active front grille – replicated in multiple locations around the cabin.

The Lotus philosophy of light-weighting – removing material if it’s not needed – is clearly illustrated in the instrument panel. The floating wing’s central section has been taken out, echoing the design of the rear spoiler.

There is a wealth of practical storage space in the Eletre’s cabin. The centre console includes a storage tray with wireless charging for mobile phones, as well as twin cupholders of different sizes which sit flush to the surface until they’re needed. The beautifully sculpted door design includes storage that will take a litre bottle.

The smart design is continued in the rear of the car, with space in the doors and between the two chairs. There is a central draw at knee height and the armrest splits behind the two cupholders. It ends in an angled nine-inch touch-screen for infotainment, with a wireless charging tray beneath.

 

Infotainment and technology: a world-class digital experience

The infotainment experience in the Eletre sets new standards in the automotive world, with pioneering and innovative use of intelligent technologies. The result is an intuitive and seamless connected experience. It is a collaboration between the design team in Warwickshire and the Lotus team in China, who have huge experience in the fields of User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX).

Below the instrument panel a blade of light runs across the cabin, sitting in a ribbed channel that widens at each end to create the air vents. While it appears to be floating, the light is more than decorative and forms part of the human machine interface (HMI). It changes colour to communicate with occupants, for example, if a phone call is received, if the cabin temperature is changed, or to reflect the vehicle’s battery charge status.

Below the light is a ‘ribbon of technology’ which provides the front seat occupants with information. Ahead of the driver the traditional instrument cluster binnacle has been reduced to a slim strip less than 30mm high to communicate key vehicle and journey information. It’s repeated on the passenger side, where different information can be displayed, for example, music selection or nearby points of interest. Between the two is the latest in OLED touch-screen technology, a 15.1-inch landscape interface which provides access to the car’s advanced infotainment system. It automatically folds flat when not required. Information can also be displayed to the driver via a head-up display featuring augmented reality (AR) technology, which is standard equipment on the car.

While every element of the Eletre can be controlled digitally, certain key controls are duplicated with analogue switches – another nod to the simplicity for which Lotus is famed. Voice control through advanced speech recognition technology is also available.

The technical look, compact size and premium feel of the steering wheel delivers maximum comfort, performance and usability. Visually lightweight, it houses switchgear for the adaptive cruise control and infotainment system. Both it and the driver’s seat move back to create more space for ingress and egress, returning to the pre-set position as the door is closed.

The standard audio system on the car is provided by renowned British brand KEF. Called KEF Premium, it is a 1,380-watt 15-speaker set-up with Uni-QTM and surround sound technology. Uni-Q dispenses with separated tweeter and mid-range speakers, instead combining both into an acoustically idealised single unit. It covers the entire mid and high-frequency sound spectrum from a single point in space, delivering a more coherent, hyper-realistic sound experience.

Customers can upgrade to KEF Reference, a 2,160-watt 23-speaker system with Uni-Q and 3D surround sound technology. KEF Reference also features Uni-CoreTM, a pioneering new approach to speaker and subwoofer design, and the Eletre marks its debut in the automotive world. It uses two dual force-cancelling drivers with concentrically arranged and overlapping voice coils, driven by a single motor. This enables high-level performance while reducing the subwoofer or speaker volume significantly. Both KEF Premium and KEF Reference feature partially exposed speakers in the doors, a very technical execution and beautiful design feature.

At the core of the Eletre’s UI/UX is the Lotus attribute of simplicity, which is realised through three pillars. The first is ‘lightweight’, a name given to both the system components and the experience. For example, with three touches of the main screen users can access 95% of the car’s functionality. The second pillar of ‘intelligence’ means the system is versatile, creating a vehicle which is fully customisable through the settings menu. The final pillar is ‘immersive’, with carefully crafted and curated content and interactions that excite and engage occupants – a very Lotus attribute. This includes the on-screen three-dimensional world in which the car is viewed, showcasing the Eletre as the hero and adopting user experiences from the worlds of gaming and mobile technology.

Technology is used for much more than infotainment on the Eletre. It is also at the heart of the car’s comprehensive suite of intelligent Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), many of which are designed to be futureproof so new features can be enabled via Over The Air (OTA) updates. Several utilise the LIDAR system; its deployable sensors are hidden when not required, ensuring the car’s striking design shines through and only emerging from the top of the windscreen, the top of the rear glass, and from the front wheel arches as required.

The LIDAR system means the Eletre supports end-to-end autonomous driving technology and is future-proofed for further development, achievable because of the hardware that’s already integrated. Further capability can be added via OTA software updates, as and when it is allowed by local market regulation.

The Eletre is available with Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC); Collision Mitigation Support Front (CMSF); Traffic Sign Information (TSI); Door Open Warning (DOW); Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA); Front Cross Traffic Alert (FCTA); Lane Change Assist (LCA); Children Presence Detection (CPD); Lane Keep Aid with Lane Departure Warning / Prevention (LKA+); Parking Emergency Brake (PEB); Collision Mitigation Support Rear (CMSR); and Emergency Rescue Call (E-Call). There are i-Size child seat anchor points on the outboard rear seats.

The latest connectivity technology, including 5G compatibility, is part of the Eletre package. This enables continuous connection to the car via smartphone app, OTA software updates and the ability for customers to purchase new features enabled via software as they become available. A smartphone app for Eletre owners will include access to driving logs, vehicle and charge status, remote features, location services and a host of other functionality.

 

A dedicated all-new EV platform delivering outstanding performance

Gavan Kershaw, Director, Attributes and Product Integrity, Lotus, has been involved in defining the attributes of the Eletre from the very start, and continues to lead the Hethel-based dynamics team in their collaborative work with colleagues in China, Sweden and Germany.

He said: “Dynamically, the Eletre has been developed to deliver everything you would expect from a Lotus – outstanding ride and handling, highly communicative steering and exceptional driver engagement. From a performance perspective, we know the world is watching so there has been an obsession with getting everything just right. The Eletre is built on an all-new 800v dedicated electric vehicle architecture with integrated, high-voltage power distribution system. This architecture uses aluminium and high tensile steel for optimum structural rigidity. The flat ‘skateboard-style’ battery pack and electric motors are close to the ground to create a low centre of gravity and deliver on the core Lotus commitment of outstanding dynamic performance. The high energy density of the battery pack provides the best possible balance of performance and driving range. There are two electric motors, one driving the front wheels and another driving the rear wheels. A three-in-one electric drive system integrates each motor with a controller and reducer, an efficient design which makes the unit smaller and lighter – a very Lotus solution.

Every Eletre comes with exceptional dynamics, outstanding comfort and true Lotus performance. The car has five-link suspension at the rear for optimised ride and handling, while standard equipment includes air suspension and Continuous Damping Control (CDC). Active ride height, active rear axle steering, an active anti-roll bar and torque vectoring via braking are all available.

The car comes with four drive modes, which adjust the steering, damper settings, powertrain and accelerator pedal response. The modes are Range, Tour, Sport, Off-Road and Individual, and are standard on all versions of the car.

애스턴마틴 V12 밴티지는 가속 능력, 정밀한 핸들링, 고유의 디자인 및 전통을 두루 갖춘 최고의 역동적인 스포츠카이다. 지난 2007년 첫번째 V12 밴티지 RS 컨셉트카가 공개된 순간부터 지난 15년 동안 가장 빠르고 강력하며 역동적인 스포츠카라는 상징적인 혈통까지 계승한 애스턴마틴 최신 모델이다. 

애스턴마틴은 이번 파이널 에디션 공개를 통해 역사적인 마지막 챕터를 스스로 기록하려 한다. V12 밴티지의 파이널 에디션은 전세계 한정 333대만 생산되며, 올 2분기부터 생산을 시작해 3분기부터 순차적으로 고객에게 인도된다.

 


파이널 에디션 모델은 가장 빠르고 강력한 밴티지 모델로 기록될 것이다. 최고 출력 700마력(PS)과 최대 토크 753Nm(1,800~6,000rpm)의 강력한 파워를 제공하는 쿼드 캠 60° 5.2리터 V12 트윈 터보 엔진은 중간 단계와 낮은 영역대의 엔진회전에서도 최상의 성능을 발휘한다. 

파워트레인의 강력한 파워와 첨단 소재를 다양하게 접목시킨 애스턴마틴 엔지니어링 팀의 경량화 노력 덕분에 수치상으로 기록된 다이내믹 성능 지표인 최고속도는 322km/h(200mph)이며, 0-100km/h까지 도달 시간은 3.5초에 불과하다. 

 


V12 밴티지의 무게대비 출력비는 톤당 390PS이며 V8 엔진 기반 밴티지 대비 20% 이상 높다. 경량화 소재인 카본 파이버는 프런트 범퍼, 클램쉘 보닛, 프런트 펜더와 사이드 실 등 광범위하게 적용됐으며, 컴포지트 리어 범퍼, 경량 배터리 및 차체 중앙에 장착된 트윈 배기 시스템 등 다양한 경량화 기술을 탑재했다. 특히 V12 밴티지의 강력한 배기 시스템은 1mm 두께의 가벼운 스테인리스로 제작돼 다른 밴티지 모델보다 약 7.2kg이 가볍다. 

파워트레인과 결합된 ZF 8단 자동 변속기는 차체 후미에 탑재된 기계식 LSD(Limited-Slip Differential)를 거쳐 동력을 전달한다. 밴티지 F1 에디션 모델 등 기존 모델의 데이터를 기반으로 최적화 과정을 거친 소프트웨어를 탑재했다. 운전자의 요구 사항에 따른 차량의 응답성을 분석해 최상의 변속 성능을 제공한다. 

밴티지라는 명성에 어울리는 드라이빙 다이내믹 성능은 최신 기술과 엔지니어링을 통해 크게 향상됐다. 최신의 안티롤 바, 스프링 및 댐퍼 어셈블리가 적용된 적응형 댐핑 서스펜션 시스템은 최상의 드라이빙 경험을 제공한다. 전반적인 차체 강성은 8%, 측면 강성은 6.7% 향상돼 다이내믹한 드라이빙을 즐길 최적의 플랫폼을 완성했다. 특히 차체 후미에 장착된 2차 텐더 스프링은 메인 스프링보다 부드러워 향상된 승차감을 제공하면서도 다이내믹 성능에 영향을 끼치지 않는다. 

V12 밴티지의 카본 세라믹 브레이킹 시스템은 6-피스톤 캘리퍼의 410mmx38mm 전륜 디스크를, 4-피스톤 캘리퍼의 360mmx32mm 후륜 디스크를 탑재하고 있다. 카본 세라믹 브레이킹 시스템의 강력한 제동성능은 어떤 상황에서도 안정적으로 발휘된다. 800° 온도에서도 브레이크 페이드(Brake Fade)를 방지하도록 설계됐으며 일반 브레이크 대비 23kg 경량화에도 성공했다. 

드라이빙 성능을 배가시키는 혁신적인 디자인도 확인할 수 있다. 코너링 성능과 최적화된 안정성을 위해 약 40mm 더 넓어진 와이드 바디 디자인은 향상된 에어로 다이내믹 성능과 강력한 파워가 느껴지는 디자인을 동시에 제공한다. 약 25% 더 커진 대형 프런트 그릴은 엔진의 빠른 냉각에 이상적이며, 보닛 전체에 걸쳐 말굽 형태의 에어 벤트부터 사이드 실 등은 에어로 다이내믹 성능은 물론 밴티지 GT12 등 전설적인 모델들의 디자인 아이덴티티까지 계승하고 있다. 

차체 후미의 통합 디퓨저를 포함하는 고유의 범퍼 외에 날렵한 실루엣으로 섬세한 디자인 디테일까지 제공하는 대형 리어 윙을 포함하는 에어로 다이내믹 패키지는 최대 204kg에 달하는 다운포스를 생성해 최상의 고속 안정성을 제공한다.

미니가 2021년 FIA 포뮬러 E 챔피언십을 위해 새로운 세이프티 카를 준비했습니다. '미니 일렉트릭 페이스세터(MINI Electric Pacesetter)'란 이름의 매력적인 순수 전기 파워트레인 모델입니다.

he MINI Electric Pacesetter is headed to Brooklyn as the official Safety Car for the 2021 ABB New York City E-PRIX, the sixth stage of the FIA Formula E championship series set to begin on Saturday, July 10. The race will be the MINI Electric Pacesetter’s U.S. debut, following its official track debut in Rome earlier this year.
 
The MINI Electric Pacesetter concept, built on the new MINI Cooper SE and born out of the creative minds of MINI Design, BMW Motorsport, the FIA and the Formula E, is a bridge between MINI‘s historic motorsports legacy and its forward-thinking venture into electrification. The MINI Electric Pacesetter will be easily recognizable on the track in its matte silver finish and a high gloss wrap with a two-color gradient of Highspeed Orange and Curbside Red, while retaining iconic MINI features such as its circular headlights.
 
“It’s exciting to see the MINI Pacesetter make its way to the Brooklyn Formula E circuit right in the backyard of our U.S. headquarters,” said Mike Peyton, Chief Motorer & Vice President, MINI of the Americas. “The MINI Pacesetter as the official Safety Car for the Formula E race series gives us the perfect opportunity to showcase the combination of electrification and performance that is uniquely MINI.”
 
While not among the vehicles competing this at this weekend’s race, the MINI Electric Pacesetter boasts a powerful 135kW drive system that can accelerate the vehicle from 0 – 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 6.7 seconds. Relevant to its performance needs as a safety car, the MINI Electric Pacesetter can also reach a 75 mph (80-120 km/h) time of 4.3 seconds. The vehicle’s is also 286 lb. (130kg) lighter than the standard MINI Cooper SE, allowing the Pacesetter to nimbly navigate the track when intervention is needed on race day.
 
Heading into its fifth race in the 2021 Formula E season, the MINI Electric Pacesetter will be driven by Bruno Correia, who has served as the FIA Formula E Safety Car driver since 2014.

로터스가 브랜드 재건의 신호탄이 될 새로운 미드십 슈퍼카 에미라(Lotus Emira)를 공개했다.  에미라는 새로운 로터스 시대를 여는 장본인인 동시에 내연기관을 장착하는 마지막 로터스가 된다. 

개발 컨셉은 개성적인 디자인과 탁월한 주행감각에 승차감을 접목한 스포츠카다. 따라서, 기존 로터스가 만들었던 초경량 기반으로 달리는 즐거움에 올인한 모델과는 차별화된다. 부족했던 실내 쾌적성과 조립 완성도를 높였다는 뜻이기도 하다.

‘에미라’는 고대 언어로 사령관, 또는 지도자를 의미한다. 향후, 이어질 로터스의 발전의 기폭제가 되길 바라는 뜻을 담았다.  

길이x너비x높이가 4,412x1,895x1,225mm, 휠 베이스는 2,575mm이다. 에보라보다 조금 더 크고 공차 중량도 1,405kg으로 조금 더 나간다. 디자인은 먼저 공개한 에비자(Evija) 하이퍼카를 닮았다.

새로 개발된 경량 접착제 사용 알루미늄 섀시에 얹은 엔진은 2종류다. 먼저 판매되는 퍼스트 에디션(한정판)에는 토요타에서 공급하는 V6 3.5L 슈퍼차저가 사용되고 내년 여름부터는 메르세데스 -AMG와 함께 개발한 직렬 4기통 2.0 터보차저 엔진을 추가한다. 

변속기도 엔진에 따다 다른데, V6 엔진엔 수동과 자동 두 가지 선택지를 두고, 4기통에는 AMG의 DCT(듀얼 클러치 변속기)만 함께한다. 

엔진의 출력은 360~400마력 사이가 되며,  0-100km/h 가속시간 4.5초, 최고속도 290km/h의 성능을 예고한 상태다.

주행성과 함께 승차감을 모두 잡기 위해 서스펜션 튜닝은 2가지로 나눴다. 투어 모드는 일반도로 주행에서 스포츠 주행을 즐기기에 알맞고, 로터스 드라이버 팩에 포함된 스포츠 모드는 역동적인 주행성과 보다 직관적인 유압 스티어링 감각을 제공한다. 

로터스는 에미라를 7월 8일부터 11일까지 영국에서 열리는 ‘굿우드 스피드 페스티벌’에 공개한 후, 내년 봄부터 고객에게 인도할 계획이다. 아직 정확한 가격은 발표하지 않았지만, 시작가가 7만 2,000유로(약 9천 700만원) 수준인 것으로 알려졌다.

Building on the legacy of the Elise, Exige and Evora, the Emira represents a quantum leap forward for Lotus. Those instantly recognisable brand signatures and core values have been combined with a paradigm shift in levels of practicality, comfort, functionality and technology.

Matt Windle, Managing Director, Lotus Cars commented: “The Emira is a game-changer for Lotus. It stands as a beacon of everything we have achieved to date in the transformation of the business, the embodiment of our progress. It is a highly significant milestone on our path to becoming a truly global performance car brand.”

The Emira has been developed on a new lightweight bonded aluminium chassis, technology pioneered by Lotus and which remains an intrinsic part of the company’s sports car DNA. That innovative vehicle architecture is wrapped with a bold and sculpted design using cues clearly developed from the Evija. Key dimensions of the Emira are length 4,412mm; width 1,895mm; height 1,225mm; and wheelbase 2,575mm.

First customer cars will start to be delivered around the world from next spring. Powering the Emira will be a choice of two petrol engines, both globally respected for their performance characteristics. At launch, the first cars will be available as limited-production ‘First Edition’ models powered by the much-loved and Lotus-honed 3.5-litre V6 which cut its sports car teeth powering the Exige and Evora.

From summer 2022, the first new Lotus sports car engine for more than a decade makes its debut, with the Emira powered by AMG. The new-to-Lotus AMG unit is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder ‘i4’ from the performance division of Mercedes-Benz.

Working with Lotus for the first time, AMG has come on board as technical partner on the Emira programme, with some fundamental changes made to the in-line four-cylinder set-up for its Lotus debut. Transverse-mounted and delivering rear-wheel drive, the unit has been modified with a new air intake system and new exhaust to suit the character of the Emira. The second engine is more familiar, the 3.5-litre supercharged Toyota V6 that is so loved by drivers of the Exige and Evora. Cars will be available with a manual, automatic and Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).

Across the Emira range, power output will between 360 and 400bhp at launch, with 0-62mph (0-100km/h) acceleration in less than 4.5 seconds and top speeds of up to 180mph (290km/h). Maximum torque will be 430Nm and CO2 emissions will start below 180g/km. The car has a target weight of 1,405kg in its lightest form, and prices will start at less than £60,000 (less than €72,000).

Manufacturing will take place at Lotus’ famous home in Hethel, Norfolk, following more than £100million of new investment in the company’s UK facilities. The highly skilled operations teams will be supported by new processes and technologies to enhance production efficiency, volume capability and overall quality.

Lotus Emira in detail
The Emira is the first all-new Lotus sports car to be delivered under Vision80, the strategic plan which is guiding the transformation of Lotus as it moves towards its 80th anniversary in 2028. It is a truly global model, engineered to sell in all major markets around the world. Acting as a catalyst to further enhance brand awareness globally, it’s spearheading the repositioning and expansion of the Lotus retail network ahead of the arrival of a family of new vehicles.

Pronounced ‘Eh-meer-ah’, the word features in numerous ancient languages and often translates as ‘commander’ or ‘leader’. It’s highly appropriate as this is the exciting new sports car leading Lotus’ last hurrah with internal combustion engines, before fully embracing electrification and a new era for the brand later in the decade.

Exterior design: delivering exotic supercar appeal in the sports car segment
The Emira is the first Lotus sports car to carry the new design language first showcased on the award-winning Evija hypercar. It’s a contemporary look with sculpted surfaces and technical detailing, delivering exotic supercar appeal in the sports car segment. A new and more premium approach for Lotus in terms of forms and materials, it is also a leap forward in fit and finish.

Led by Russell Carr, Design Director, Lotus, the creative team has succeeded in designing something beautiful, timeless, memorable, modern and that looks like a Lotus. Its optimised proportions and athletic shrink-wrapped body visually describe Lotus’ legendary agile driving characteristics.

Russell commented: “The Emira captures the visual drama of an exotic supercar, with great proportions, wide footprint and a cabin that sits low down between muscular haunches. Add in that it’s practical enough to be useable every day, of the highest quality and accessibly priced, and it’s undoubtedly a compelling and seductive alternative to the existing sports car competition. The Emira is re-introducing our brand to a new global audience while still offering all the thrills to engage the most ardent driving enthusiast.”

The influence of the Lotus Evija is plain to see through the fluid surfaces and crisp feature lines. The lineage is even more obvious on the prominent leading edge of the bonnet, shrink-wrapped cabin that’s tapered to the rear, sculpted doors and vents cut into the muscular rear haunches. The unique-in-class exit vents, integrated into the bonnet to guide airflow over the car and optimise aerodynamics, are also derived from the Evija.

Vertical all-LED headlamps are standard across the range, with a wing-inspired twin blade design also familiar from the Lotus hypercar. The bonnet houses the current iteration of the iconic Lotus roundel, its first appearance on a new Lotus sports car and slightly larger than on previous models.

Looking at the Emira in profile, the sculpted section cut into the door leads air flow towards the intake ahead of the rear wheel. This serves a dual purpose, providing air for the engine but also to cool it. The Emira name badge is visible from the side, integrated into the C-pillar. All wheels are 20-inches in diameter; as standard they will be fitted with a Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport tyre, while a Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 is a cost option available in conjunction with the Lotus Drivers Pack. Both tyres have been specially developed for the Emira by their manufacturer.

At the rear, the Lotus wordmark dominates the integrated bumper, above a body coloured panel that’s clearly inspired by the rear of the Evija. At each end is an exit vent for air from the wheel arch. Each corner has a flat C-shaped LED light cluster linked by a slimline high-level brake light. Below is a black section housing twin exhaust pipes either side of the number plate and with an air diffuser underneath to aid downforce.

Efficient aerodynamics has been at the heart of the Lotus brand since the company was founded in 1948. It is a philosophy inextricably linked to delivering outstanding performance whether a car is on the road or race track. Simplicity is at the core of the Emira – there are no active aerodynamics as clever engineering means they’re not needed. It is the only model in its class to create passive downforce that’s precisely balanced between the front and rear axles at all speeds, perfectly tuned to the weight distribution and suspension geometry of the car. It means as downforce increases with speed, generating exceptional grip through corners, the handling characteristics remain constant, precise and predictable.

Chassis and powertrain: advanced new platform mated to high-performance engines
The Emira is built on the recently announced new Lotus Sports Car Architecture. It uses the same pioneering Lotus bonded extruded aluminium chassis technology which debuted on the Elise. However, for the Emira, every dimension is different to any previous Lotus chassis and it is fabricated in an all-new facility – Lotus Advanced Structures – in Norwich, just a few miles from Hethel.

The car has two defined chassis and suspension settings. Tour is tuned for everyday road use, delivering the optimum blend of Lotus dynamic performance and handling with a more comfortable ride. Sports is available with the optional Lotus Drivers Pack and provides a slightly stiffer suspension set-up for enhanced dynamic capability and feel. Hydraulic steering provides excellent feedback for the driver.

Two petrol engines are available, a Lotus-engineered 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit from technical partner AMG, and the much-loved and characterful 3.5-litre V6 from the Exige and Evora. Each is calibrated by Lotus to provide a unique and distinctive character for maximum driver engagement.

Gavan Kershaw, Director of Vehicle Attributes, Lotus, commented: “The 2.0-litre is the world’s most powerful production in-line four-cylinder unit mated to AMG’s acclaimed DCT with paddleshifts and driving modes. Interior design: a huge step-change for Lotus
Lotus car interiors have always been famed for putting the driver at the very centre of the experience, with pure ergonomic design and instruments carefully placed for the most intuitive use. The Emira follows these principles to the letter to create a modern cockpit environment with the essential controls to hand and minimum distraction.

What’s new about this next-generation Lotus sports car is immediately obvious – the huge step-change across all aspects of the cabin, from the contemporary design and quality of materials to the increase in storage space, exceptional fit and finish, attention to detail and abundant advanced technology now integrated.

The wraparound nature of the dashboard as it blends into the door trim creates a cossetted feeling that makes the driver feel at one with the car. The raised gear shifter only enhances that emotion. There are a high number of soft-trimmed surfaces, showcasing premium British craftsmanship that conveys ultimate sportiness. They blend perfectly with modern technical finishes to create a premium experience for the driver – ‘technology with soul’ – and there are details added in tribute to the heritage and sporting success of Lotus. Examples include the positioning of the gearstick on manual cars, which echoes that of the iconic Esprit, and the semi-exposed gear linkage visible at the base of the centre console on V6 manual cars, as on the Elise and Exige. Adding to the sense of theatre is the protective red cover over the start/stop button.

The two seats have been designed to combine exceptional lateral support for high-speed cornering with total comfort for long distance journeys. There is four-way electric adjustment on the standard seat, with the option to upgrade to a premium sports seat with 12-way electric adjustment for both the driver and passenger. All seats are unique to the Emira. The dramatic supercar-like low stance of the car has been achieved while matching best-in-class ingress/egress and headroom.

Also unique to the Emira is the flat-bottomed sports steering wheel with metallic spoke detail and integrated controls. The interior features ambient and wraparound lighting as well as map lights.

Features available on the Emira include keyless go, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, electric folding door mirrors, rear parking sensors (with front sensors as an option), auto-dimming rear view mirror, curtain airbags, launch control (as part of optional Lotus Drivers Pack), and a stolen vehicle tracker.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) available on the Emira include adaptive cruise control, anti-collision system, fatigue alert, road sign information, vehicle speed limiter, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, lane change assist.

An everyday sports car that sets new standards for practicality, comfort and functionality

From the very first discussions Lotus wanted the Emira to be an ‘every day’ sports car, delivering a usability and practicality to support that with levels of comfort and desirability for total comfort over long-distance cruising. To that end, it sets new standards for Lotus and is better than ever for the tallest and shortest drivers. There is more space between the occupants as well.

The glass area has been designed to provide good all-round visibility for daily use. Acknowledging that some owners will drive their Emira in a spirited way, and even on a circuit, the view forward – particularly of the haunches – supports highly accurate placement of the car through corners.

Access to the car’s infotainment system is via a 10.25-inch centrally mounted touch-screen, with an additional 12.3-inch TFT driver’s display behind the steering wheel. All content is exclusive to Lotus has been designed and developed by an in-house team. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are integrated as standard.

Also exclusive to Lotus is the availability of a 10-channel premium sound system from highly respected British brand KEF. This is the company’s first ever automotive partnership and features its signature Uni-Q™? technology, a unique configuration which dispenses with separated tweeter and mid-range, instead combining both into an acoustically idealised single unit. Finished with a distinctive bespoke speaker fret design, Uni-Q covers the entire mid and high-frequency sound spectrum from a single point in space, delivering a more coherent, hyper-realistic sound experience.

Storage is vital in sports car and the Emira’s cabin has been exceptionally well thought out. It has twin central cup holders with a phone storage slot between them, and door bins that can accommodate a 500ml bottle. Practicality also comes from the glovebox, trinket tray ahead of the gearstick, armrest between the seats with USB and 12v ports, plus a console net for bottles or documents.

Luggage or other large items can be stored behind the two seats (208 litres) or in the boot to the rear of the engine. This space (151 litres) will take a standard-sized flight case or a set of golf clubs.

Built at Hethel in an all-new manufacturing facility
Lotus sports cars have been built at Hethel since 1966. Following more than £100million of UK investment by Lotus, production of the Emira will take place in all-new state-of-the-art factory. The Emira will remain ‘Handmade in Hethel’, supported by new processes and technologies that will enhance efficiency and build quality – a genuine ‘best of both worlds’ solution.

An all-new paintshop features robotic application – a first for Lotus that will improve quality, capacity and process repeatability. It includes many innovative technologies such as a combined primer and clearcoat line. There is a new semi-automated body assembly system, with robots being used to apply adhesive. Vehicle bodies are transported around the main assembly area on Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs). Emira production actually begins at Lotus Advanced Structures (LAS), an all-new facility in nearby Norwich where chassis fabrication and front-end assembly takes place. The launch of the Emira has created more than 200 new operations roles at Lotus.

For the first time since the launch of Bentayga in 2015, an S version is now available – reflecting feedback from the huge number of customers that enjoy the dynamic performance of their Bentayga on-road. Building on Bentley’s established ‘S’ brand, the new enhanced sports Bentayga provides an even more engaging drive, with Bentley Dynamic Ride active anti-roll control fitted as standard and an enhanced Sports chassis mode. A 15 per cent increase in damping stiffens the chassis and provides a platform for a more dynamic SPORT mode ESC tune.

Bentayga S also features a revised visual presence through the distinctive addition of black details, and a more sporting soundtrack courtesy of a newly designed, free-flowing sports exhaust – both of which increase the Bentayga’s already imposing presence on the road.

The Bentayga S is distinguished by a range of distinctive exterior features, including new unique 22” wheels with three finishes, innovative ‘S’ badges positioned on the lower edge of the front doors, and Blackline Specification as standard. The profile has increased presence due to the larger rear spoiler, gloss black side sills and lower bumpers, front and rear. Dark tint lenses to head lamps and tail lamps, black door mirrors and black split oval tailpipes complete the striking exterior.

Inside a luxuriously refined cabin, a unique Bentayga S style can be found using new seats, unique stitching, a new colour split and Alcantara® to reflect the striking exterior and increased dynamic ability. Colour accents on the instrument panel, centre console, door pads and seat bolsters as well as Alcantara® to seat cushion and back inserts, steering wheel and gear lever, give the Bentayga S a bold and contemporary style. ‘S’ badges can be found on the passenger fascia as well as new graphics in the driver’s instrument panel and illuminated treadplates, denoting the model.    

Bentley’s sector-defining and market-leading luxury SUV is available in four, five or seven seat configurations, and since it entered the market in 2016, more than 25,000 customers have taken delivery of a Bentayga. The fourth model in the Bentayga range joins the efficient plug-in Hybrid, the 4.0-litre turbocharged V8, and the powerful 6.0-litre, 12-cylinder Speed. 

Sublime Power and Performance

The Bentayga S features Bentley’s renowned 4.0-litre, twin-scroll turbocharged V8 petrol engine, combining immense power with impressive fuel economy. The latest-generation engine develops 542 bhp (550 PS) and 568 lb.ft. (770 Nm) of torque, with a 0-60 mph (0–100 km/h) time of 4.4 (4.5) seconds and a top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h).  This class-leading performance is complemented by a range of 406 miles (654 km), with CO2 emissions of 294 g/km. 

Deploying the power as effectively as possible, Bentley Dynamic Ride is fitted as standard and was the world’s first electric active roll control technology that utilises an unrivalled 48V system. The system can react within 0.3s with up to 1,300 Nm of torque to counteract lateral rolling forces when cornering, ensuring maximum tyre contact to deliver class-leading cabin stability, ride comfort and exceptional handling. 

Similar to the recently launched Continental GT Speed, where the boundaries of grand touring comfort versus engaging performance have been extended through chassis mode selection, the Bentayga S now offers increased capability through an enhanced SPORT mode over a standard Bentayga. 

In SPORT, improved steering feel, greater turn-in response and further reduced body-roll is possible due to an additional 15 per cent increase in air suspension damping and a unique Electronic Stability Control and Bentley Dynamic Ride tune. 

Recalibration of Bentley’s Torque Vectoring by Brake system – whereby the car lightly brakes the inside rear wheel at corner entry to sharpen the front axle turn-in – has made Bentayga S even more responsive to drive.

A new sports exhaust is included as standard, with free-flowing primary and secondary pipes improving flow and combining with reduced perforations in the muffler to deliver enhanced character and volume, giving a more performance-oriented feel.

The Bentayga’s comprehensive off-road abilities remain, with the optional All-Terrain Specification bringing four dedicated off-road modes (Snow and Wet Grass, Dirt and Gravel, Mud and Trail, and Sand) along with a 500 mm wading depth. 

Bentayga ‘S’ - True Road Presence

The youthful, muscular exterior design of the new Bentayga S reflects a truly dynamic driving experience. Stylish and purposeful in equal measure, the sporting nature of the Bentayga S is clearly visible from every angle, and made more dramatic with a suite of changes that change the character of the car both inside and out.

The Bentayga’s already striking road presence is amplified still further on the ‘S’ with black treatment to all exterior brightware, matched with black door mirrors and black-painted side sills. These features are enhanced by dark tint treatment to the headlamps and elliptical tail lamps, together with new high gloss black on the lower bumper grilles. A larger rear spoiler on the Bentayga S that both extends the roofline in profile and provides increased aerodynamic stability at speed is complemented by black painted, split oval, sport exhaust tailpipes, and unique exterior badging. 

The new unique 22” wheel style is dramatic and mirrored from the centre line of the vehicle, ensuring that the spokes (appearing like ‘scythes’), point in the same direction on both sides of the vehicle. Available in three finishes, silver painted is standard, with full gloss black or black and bright polished being optional. The black and bright polished wheel is highly labour intensive – firstly the rim is ceramic polished, before the bright areas are masked off to allow for gloss black paint to be applied, ahead of a final finish - polished by hand.

A Unique Cabin - Luxuriously Equipped

The ‘S’ colour split introduces Alcantara® to the cabin of the V8-powered Bentayga, across the seat cushions and back rest centre panels, gear lever, steering wheel, upper trim and headlining creating a performance-focused yet luxurious interior.     

A new fluted seat design is available in four, five and seven seat configurations. The introduction of a new, unique and modern seat design provides a more sporting aesthetic with clean simple stitch lines through the shoulder areas. The new stitching design defines the fluting, available to match either primary or secondary hide colour, and combines with the Alcantara® elements to complete the new aesthetic. The seat backrests are finished with an embroidered ‘S’ motif.    

A unique and elegant fascia badge adorns the dashboard in front of the passenger, with a similarly themed Bentayga S treadplate that illuminates when stepping in or out of the vehicle.
The Bentayga S shares a fully digital driver’s information panel with the Bentayga Speed, with pronounced dial graphics that take influence from high-end chronographs. The display brings a contemporary look to the cockpit, can be customised to the driver’s requirements and features real-time lighting effects with elegant animations.    

The high-resolution screen can be viewed in either Classic or Expanded format. In Classic, the display shows the traditional two-dial design of speedometer and tachometer. In Expanded, the right dial is replaced with an area for maps and media information.
